FightCyberstalking.org - Computer Security Tips

One of the first things you should do if you're currently being cyberstalked is SCAN your computer using anti-virus software. Your cyberstalker MAY have sent you a keylogger. If your cyberstalker has sent you a keylogger he may be able to monitor all of your keystrokes, capture screenshots of websites you've visited, and may be able redirect your browser to different websites.

Safety Precautions

You should follow these safety precautions to take to ensure your computer is safe and secure:

  • Avoid file sharing networks.
  • Don't open spam email.
  • Install and use anti-virus protection software and anti-malware software.
  • Scan your computer regularly for viruses.
  • Make sure your computer uses a firewall.
  • Be sure to install the latest updates for your computer.
  • Only give out your email address to people you know and trust. Treat your email address like it is your phone number.
  • Don't open attachments in emails from people you don't know and trust.
  • Only engage via IM (Instant Messenger) with people you know and trust, as someone you don't really know can easily send you an IM worm in chat.
  • Don't leave your computer logged into the internet if you're not using it.
  • And lastly, save all chats, emails, and harassing messages so that you can report your cyberstalking case to your local police department.
